Planning for Recovery
The Premier’s Economic Recovery Council, with members including Jack Mintz of the School of Public Policy at the University of Calgary, the Right Honourable Stephen Harper and Clive Beddoe, Past CEO of Westjet asked the Business Council of Alberta (BCA) to organize and implement a number of sector tables to provide input to their discussions on how to get Alberta’s economy moving as quickly as possible when the COVID-19 crisis passes.
Alberta Wheat and Barley Commission General Manager Tom Steve has been asked to sit on the Agriculture and Forestry Sector Table, which incudes business leaders from across the value chain of food production. Tom joins a group of industry executives chaired by Scott Bolton, President and CEO of United Farmers of Alberta (UFA), that will be meeting weekly and providing input to the Premier’s Council on how to rebound as quickly as possible from the COVID-19 economic downturn.
Groups represented on the Ag and Forestry Sector table include: fertilizer manufacturing and ag retailing, banking, farm equipment sales and parts, livestock production and feeding, marketing & communications and farm organizations.
This is a unique opportunity for AWC/Alberta Barley to provide direct input to the highest levels of government on the impact of COVID-10 on farmers’ business and offer solutions.
