Alberta Barley is a farmer-led grassroots organization, which is open and transparent with its fiscal policies. For every tonne of barley (feed, malt, food and other uses) sold in Alberta, a $1.00 check-off is deducted. This mandatory, yet refundable, deduction is Alberta Barley’s sole source of revenue. Our farmer-elected Board directs funds into priorities that matter to barley farmers: variety research, as well as market development and policy.
Here are some examples how check-off dollars help improve your crops and generate new markets for producers:
- Barley 180
- Evaluation and Adaptation of Controlled Traffic Farming in Alberta
- Night Spraying: Pesticide Efficacy with Night Time Application
- Canadian Malting Barley Technical Centre
- Hulless Barley
- Consumer and Producer Outreach: Calgary Stampede Ag-tivity in the City and Agri-Trade Exposition.
Farmers who have remitted their check-off dollars to Alberta Barley are encouraged to participate in annual and regional meetings and delegate elections.
