At this point in the season, many of the in-crop management decisions have been made. The southern parts of the province are readying the combines for harvest, expected to start in the next couple of weeks, while the northern part of the province has just completed anthesis. Now, the long wait of grain fill begins. According to the recent Alberta crop report, the cereal crops in South, Central and N East Alberta are mostly looking good to excellent. N West and Peace have much lower crop conditions ratings due to impacts of excess moisture. Although the majority of potential in crop tasks are complete, considerations on post-anthesis fusarium scouting, stripe rust on late seeding crops, and planning for winter cereals still require attention.
Good luck. Stay healthy and safe as we inch closer to getting some grain in the bin.
