Ed Tollefson appointed to Alberta Barley board of directors
Oct. 27, 2016 (Calgary, AB): Valleyview area farmer Ed Tollefson has been appointed to Alberta Barley’s board of directors representing region six. The appointment comes after former director Gerald Finster resigned from the board due to increased business and family demands this past June.
“I enjoyed my time on the board,” said Finster. “The Alberta Barley board has a great group of directors and I was proud to serve alongside them.”
Alberta Barley chair Mike Ammeter thanked Finster for his contribution and is looking forward to working with Tollefson.
“Gerald was an excellent board member for the last four years and we were lucky to have a thoughtful mind like his around the table,” he said. “Now, it’s exciting to have Ed join us as we continue to help shape policy and build consensus on topics that are important for barley farmers.”
Tollefson, along with his wife Lorna and their three children, farms a 1,700-acre mixed farm along with a 100-head cow-calf operation southeast of Valleyview.
“I am looking forward to serving at Alberta Barley and collaborating with fellow farmers,” said Tollefson, 51. “It’s an exciting time to be in agriculture and I’m proud to have a chance to interact with other talented individuals at a board level.”
His involvement in agriculture goes beyond the farm, as well. Tollefson served as a councillor for the M.D. of Greenview from 2001 to 2013 and also spent nearly 20 years as a representative on the Ag Service Board in Valleyview between 1992 and 2010.
