David Bishop has been Alberta Barley’s Region 1 Director since 2014. Prior to that, he was a Delegate. At the Alberta Barley’s 2018 AGM, David was elected Chair.
David is a heavy-duty and automotive mechanic graduate of SAIT and was involved with his family’s agriculture and automotive dealership in Claresholm until 1998 when it was sold. He began farming in 1986 with his wife, Mary, and her parents near Barons, northwest of Lethbridge. They have since expanded and currently farm 3,500 acres of dry land and irrigation where barley, wheat, canola, rye, pulses and forage are grown. Whenever extra hands are needed their two sons, Clinton and Erek, help out.
Currently, David, is also President of the Alberta Seed Processors and is on the Board of Directors for the Grain Growers of Canada. Locally, he is on the Board for the Carmangay Seed Cleaning Plant and is a member of the Barons Elks, Legion and Agricultural Society. In David’s spare time, he enjoys golfing, curling and traveling.
David became involved with Alberta Barley as he recognizes the importance of agriculture and he wishes to add to the meaningful work that is being accomplished by organizations like Alberta Barley. He is a firm believer that the agriculture industries and commodity organizations need input from producers.
