Research Projects

Through its research program, the Alberta Barley Commission fosters development of new and improved technologies by initiating and coordinating research on barley in the areas of production, processing, marketing, and product development.

Agriculture Funding Consortium

The Alberta Barley Commission is one of 15 members that make up the Agriculture Funding Consortium www.fundingconsortium.caResearch proposals should be sent directly to the Agriculture Funding Consortium through the electronic system found on the website.

Other members include:

The Consortium was formed in 2000 to evaluate and fund agricultural research and development in Alberta. Each year it seeks applications for leading-edge, innovative and industry-relevant projects that will support the further development of the agricultural industry in Alberta.

One of the benefits of the Consortium is that it has a “one-window application approach” -- applicants need only submit a single funding application to reach a wide range of potential funders.

Applicants should be aware of the priorities and investment criteria of the six Agriculture Funding Consortium members and the 10 associate members when submitting letters of intent.
The Consortium’s fall primary call for applications is open for both research and development. Research applications are open to basic and applied research initiatives. They require a letter of intent (LOI), which must be submitted by September 2, 2009. Successful applicants are asked to submit a full proposal by November 23, 2009.

All proposals are reviewed by scientific and expert committees. Each funding organization considers the reviews and determines its interest in supporting individual proposals. The funding members then meet and collectively determine funding levels and how they will collaborate on projects.

Applications and instructions are available at www.fundingconsortium.ca with further details and a listing of R&D priorities available online at www.acidf.ca. For list of barley-related research needs and priorities see the following website.
