2.      Background (Briefly outline current knowledge most pertinent to the problem area)

3.      Problem Statement (Clearly state objectives.  With the statement of objectives include a brief summary of proposed research and a concise description of design/experimental methods).

4.      Significance (The applicant should place their major emphasis on this item.  Identify implications of the proposed research for the barley industry.  Discussion should emphasize how the research will lead to improved profitability of barley and how the knowledge gained will be implemented in the industry.)

5.      Joint Funding (Indicate if joint or matching funding is already held or will be sought form other agencies.)

6.      General Cost Assessment (Provide an approximate budget breakdown.  Please indicate clearly the total budget of the project and the amount being requested from the ABC, as well as from other agencies.  The ABC usually supports: 1) labour and materials, 2) overhead costs to a limit of 10% of total (requested from ABC), 3) capital expenditures over $500 only when sufficiently justified in terms of need and fate of residual value, and 4) publication charges of ABC funded research subject to policy of individual institutions.)

7.       Curriculum Vitae (Attach a curriculum vitae of no more than one page.)

The pre-proposal should not exceed four (4) typed pages.  Please submit an original and two (2) copies to the Alberta Barley Commission by Friday, October 26, 2007.
