CALL FOR PROJECT PRE-PROPOSALS
The Alberta Barley Commission is now accepting new and renewal
pre-proposal funding applications for research of interest to Alberta barley producers.
Through the research program, the Commission fosters development of new and
improved technologies by initiating and coordinating research on barley in the areas of
production, processing, marketing, and product development.
Two-Track Application Process
Effective in 2005, the Alberta Barley Commission joined the Funding
Consortium to evaluate project proposals. The Consortium now consists of
approximately 16 separate organizations, such as Alberta Agricultural Research Institute,
Alberta Crop Industry Development Fund, Barley, Canola and Pulse Commissions, and others.
Researchers benefit by filing only one application to the Funding Consortium which
is evaluated by all sixteen individual groups for consideration- including the Alberta
Barley Commission.
The Consortium accepts electronic applications for Letters of Intent (LOI)
from July 1, 2007 until September 4, 2007. Invitations for full proposals are then
sent out on October 16, 2007. The dealine for full proposals is November 20, 2007.
Researchers who previously applied separately to the Alberta Barley Commission no longer need to do so. For further information and
application forms, please visit: www.fundingconsortium.ca
The Commission will continue to accept
pre-proposals for consideration directly, as in the past. Pre-proposal forms, which
are available on the website www.albertabarley.com,
should briefly outline the project, its value to the barley industry in Alberta, and
include a summary budget. These pre-proposals will be reviewed and researchers will
be requested, by invitation only, to submit full project proposals for further
consideration. An original and two (2) copies of the pre-proposal application should
be submitted to the Alberta Barley Commission before Friday, October 26,
2007.
Researchers submitting proposals that do not seek funding from other
Funding Consortium members may consider submitting directly to the Commission. However,
those proposals that seek funds from Consortium members are encouraged to submit to the
Funding Consortium for approval.
Guidance on New Research Proposals
The Commission has recently updated its Guidance for New
Project Proposals. This list is
meant to compliment the important areas that are already being addressed by the Commission
(e.g., NIR, barley breeding, etc
). These subjects are intended only as a guide
for researchers submitting new proposals, whether through the Funding Consortium or
directly to the Commission. Researchers are invited to submit proposals on other topics as
well. Full consideration will be given to any submission.
The research priorities determined by the Barley Development Council are
also taken into consideration when evaluating the research proposals. To see a copy
of these priorities and to obtain an Alberta Barley Commission pre-proposal form, as well
as a list of the research projects currently funded by the Commission, please visit the
Alberta Barley Commission website at www.albertabarley.com
or call the Commission office.
