Cinnamon Swirls

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole grain barley flour
  • 1 cup white flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • To taste brown sugar
  • To taste cinnamon
  • To taste raisins (optional)

Directions

  1. Mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. 
  2. Crumble and mix butter into dry ingredients. 
  3. Crack two eggs into a measuring cup, then add milk to make 1 cup. 
  4. Add egg/milk mixture to dry ingredients and mix until a nice dough forms. 
  5. Press and roll dough into an approximately 12" x 8" rectangle. 
  6. Spread butter/margarine onto rolled dough, and then sprinkle generous amounts of brown sugar and cinnamon onto dough. 
  7. Adding a sprinkle of raisins is tasty as well.
  8. Roll up dough into a tube shape, and slice into 12 sections. 
  9. Bake in a muffin tin for 15 to 20 minutes at 375F (190C). 
  10. Drizzling your favorite white icing recipe over the cooked Cinnamon Swirls can add great flavor.
